The Gaurdian's liveblogger is almost certainly reporting this second-hand, most likely based on watching a livestream from some broadcast news channel. They're not actually at the court themselves.
It's interesting that various religions that regulated fitness for marriage used puberty as a marker but we use age as a marker for criminal responsibility.
